Where the lobbying is heaviest, the filings are thinnest

For anyone waiting on a permit, an inspection, or a plan check.

The money

About 90 of the 313 lobbyist contacts counted this summer went to Building Inspection, more than any department except the Retirement System. Fire took about 35, Planning about 10.

The people

At Building Inspection, four roles had no 2026 Form 700 on file by May 31, including two at the permit counter. At Fire, 17 people were unfiled, eight in prevention and inspection. At Planning, five planners. Roles, not names: decision-makers are named on the Unfiled card; the full list is the city's.

What to ask

Ask the commission whether these filings have since arrived, and ask Building Inspection which of the lobbied permits (60 Spear, 345 Montgomery, 1035 Howard, 99 Rhode Island) crossed those desks.
